HA2 Task 2 - Game Evaluation

Name:Protect Mekka Hornet

Genre
The games genre is top down first person shooter, Also known as an FPS. As the name suggests, the game is based around insects flying in the sky, and you have to protect yourself from a swarm of insects, playing as a character named Mekka Hornet. The enemy's consists of different types such as shooters and self destructive enemy's that must touch you in order to deal damage because they cannot shoot at you. Although, all the enemy's seem to have the ability to dive into you in order to deal damage, as the first enemy's I was faced with could only shoot at me for a certain amount of time, when they ran out, they had to crash into me. The inspiration that caused this game to be created was

Game Impression
At my first look,  could see a clear relation to its inspiration game Apidya, and how the creator has tried to give the same atmosphere and sort of setting.Health system works well with the way the game players. The game starts with no main menu, but only a starting screen that says the title:
Content
From what I've seen there's more than 4 different types of enemy's and one of them creates more of them, The Graphics of this game are pixel style, with really good detail. The sound sounds such as the music are very 8 bit, was also very well done as it perfectly suit its style of art. The music is very retro and makes the player feel in danger, as this game should make the player feel, especially since they are being swarmed by hoards of insects. The music makes the mood feel really intense and hectic, as the player is attacked. The gun shot sounds were also very realistic, but were easy to tell they were made with VSTi.

Construction
The mechanics of this game consist from simple movement, simple health, simple death, and very simple enemy attacks. The movement as I mentioned before, felt very slow in its reaction time from when I was pressing the button to when my character would actually move. This late reaction time made it difficult for to actually control my character, therefore making my experience of the game hard, and stressful. The direction were very heavy too, and the player could not move diagonally making it harder to dodge enemy attacks. The player could only shoot forward, directly forward ahead of the insect, meaning you have put yourself into harms way in order to damage some enemy's. as the enemy's can only shoot in straight lines too. This proved to be very challenging as you must have to cross in between the streams of bullets at the right time in order to get to the other side of them. Also, the enemy's attempt to crash into you when they run out, so you must survive until that, and then dodge them again.

Target Audience
In My opinion, the target audience seems to be for kids, as this game seems very mini game inspired. Its graphics and sound track give me this impression.
